Strict action against adulterators: Dr Shastri

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri today expressed concern on sale of adulterated sweets and food items during the ongoing festive season and said shopkeepers selling such sweets and food items in the capital will not be spared at any cost.

Strict action would be taken against shopkeepers selling adulterated stuff, he said and added that the state government was fully aware of the problem and was monitoring markets to keep a tab on the situation.

The health minister also instructed officials of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Department to be more vigilant and asked them to frequently check sweet shops and market places to monitor the sale of adulterated sweets and food items.

Sub Divisional Magistrates in co-ordination with PFA department were keeping a watch on shopkeepers selling food items and sweets. A total 156 samples of khoya, sweets, ghee, tea, dry fruits and namkeens had been collected during last week from various zones of the city.

The samples collected were been tested for adulteration, Dr Shastri said and added that strict actions would be instigated against the culprits.

Dr Shastri also appealed the citizens of Delhi to report to zonal PFA official, any matter relating to food adulteration.
