SP, DSP arrested, remanded to CBI custody

Ambala, Oct 19 (UNI) A special CBI Court sent the former GRP SP Ravi Azad and DSP Udai Shanker to two-day CBI remand after they were arrested today on charges of committing irregularities in the recruitment of GRP constables in 2004.

CBI advocate R L Negi argued for the CBI remand of both the officers stating that they needed to be interrogated in connection with the case.

DSP Udai Shanker presently posted at Panchkula is to retire on October 31 while Ravi Azad is holding the post of Commandant Police Training Centre Madhuban, Karnal. The accused are facing charges of cheating and removing evidences for favouring undeserving candidates.

The CBI, under orders from the court, had filed the complaint against the accused on June 19 this year.

In his petition to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, one of the candidates for the post of constable had alleged that the accused SP and DSP had violated the rules and regulations in the recruitment of GRP constables affecting the future of several aspirants.
