SC dismisses petition filed against installation of Ganesha's stat
New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a contempt petition filed against the installation of noted actor Shivaji Ganeshan's statue in Marina beach, Chennai.
The petitioner, Gopalan, had alleged that the statue has been installed by the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government in violation of an undertaking given by previous Jayalalita government in this court that no installation of a statue would be permitted if it caused disruption or distraction in the flow of traffic. Hence by installing the statue of Shivaji Ganeshan in Chennai, the present government has acted in gross violation of the undertaking given by the state government. Therefore it is a clear case of 'deliberate non-compliance', he confended.
However, a bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishnan and Justice D K Jain, however, dismissed the petition after the state government assured the court that no traffic disruption is being caused by the statue.
