RTI becomes functional in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, Oct 19: The Right To Information (RTI) act became functional in Arunachal Pradesh today.

Governor S K Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 4-member state information commissioners at Raj Bhawan here.

Former Rajya Sabha member Nyodak Yongam took oath as the Chief Information Commissioner while Mr Bani Danggam, Nipo Nabam and Habung Payeng as Information Commissioners in a simple ceremony held this afternoon.

Addressing the function, the governor said many of the states in the region had already implemented the RTI last year.

Transparent governance is a must for the overall development of a state, he said and added that the elected members of the committee would be given their responsibilities and work for the betterment of the people.

Chief Minister Gegong Apang, ministers, MLAs, senior government officials besides a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
