Raitha jathas in K'taka from Nov 1-5
Mangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) will hold raitha jathas in Uttar Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts from November one to five to press the Government to come to the rescue of cash crop farmers, suffering due to fall in the prices of arecanut, coconut, copra and sugarcane.
Addressing a press conference here today, its General Secretary B C Bayya Raeey said the Sangha deeply condemned the move of the UPA Government at the Centre to ban gutka for the present crisis of deep fall in the prices of arecanut.
Demanding that the Union Government immediately withdraw the decision to ban gutka, he said it had resulted in the market taking advantage of distress sale of arecanut by the growers. Both the Union and State Governments should immediately intervene to save the distressed farmers, he added.
