PCPIA protestors arrested during 'Dispur chalo'
Guwahati, Oct 19 (UNI) As many as 100 supporters of People's Committee for Peace Initiative in Asom (PCPIA) were arrested today during a 'Dispur chalo' march demanding resumption of peace parleys with the banned ULFA.
The PCPIA had been spearheading a movement in the state for early resolution of the insurgency issue through various state-wide agitations, including fasts and road blockades, sources said.
The PCPIA has also called for a 10-hour Asom bandh tomorrow.
PCPIA member Lachit Bordoloi, who was part of today's march, said the supporters were detained at a field in the city's Chandmari area.
''We were held at the Chandmari field by the police.
They did not allow us to reach Dispur,'' he added.
The protestors were released late in the afternoon after being held for several hours.
