Pandit Ravi Shankar's school prays for his recovery

Varanasi, Oct 19 (UNI) The only school where sitar maestro Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar studied has prayed for his speedly recovery from Pneumonia.

Joint Secretary of the 152-year-old Bengali Tola Inter College Amitabh Bhattacharya told UNI here today that after coming to know about Pandit Ravi Shankar's health in the US, over 1000 children and teachers organised a special prayer yesterday to pray for his speedly recovery.

''They chanted vedic mantras to pray for Panditji's recovery who is undergoing treatment for Pneumonia at a US hospital,'' Mr Bhattacharya added.

Pandit Ravi Shankar was born on April Seven, 1920 in Varanasi and studied till third standard at Bengali Tola College, from 1926 to 1928, Mr Bhattacharya added.

Interestingly, this was the only time Panditji underwent formal schooling, he added.

The 86-year-old sitarist was admitted to a San Diego hospital in California last week following lung problems (Pneumonia).
