Notorious gangster shot dead in Dombivli
Mumbai, Oct 19 (UNI) A notorious gangster who was wanted in two murder cases, was today killed by the police in an encounter at Dombivli in the neighbouring Thane district.
Sources in the Manpada police station said that Senior Police Inspector Praful Sadashiv Joshi was on patrol duty at Gardiwa Circle in Dombivli at 0200 hrs when he saw criminal, Rajesh Bhaskar Nair alias Bobby alias Amit (28), along with another associate. He identified Nair as he was wanted in murder cases of Navin Dalal of Lonawala and R Mhatre of Dombivli.
PI Joshi asked the duo to surrender, but instead Nair and his associate tried to flee on a motorbike. After a few kilometers, they left the bike and fled away. Nair allegedly fired three rounds at the police team, in retaliation they had to fire five rounds. In the incident, the accused suffered a chest injury. He was immediately rushed to Rukmini Hospital for treatement, where doctor pronounced him dead at 0315 hrs.
A case has been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder) 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3, 25 and 27 of Arms Act, the sources added.
