North East Monsoon sets in the south

Chennai, Oct 19 (UNI) The much-awaited North East Monsoon set in over Tamil Nadu today, bringing spells of rain to Chennai and several parts of the State, bringing respite from the sweltering heat.

Weather office sources told UNI, Chennai city and its suburbs would have showers daily in the night and in the early morning hours.

The weather would clear during day time.

This trend is likely to continue for the next couple of days.

The weather office had predicted a couple of days back that with the South West Monsoon further withdrawing, conditions were favourable for the onset of the North East Monsoon over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala and adjoining parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala and adjoining parts of Andhra Pradesh during the next two to three days. 'Isolated heavy rain is also likely over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hrs,' it said.
