Mangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) Dr Michael Chirichello, Professor, Department Chair, William Paterson University, New York, today stressed that for an effective professional leadership, a leader should develop and sustain a professional leadership plan throughout the career, including long and short term career goals with ability to analyse strengths and areas needing continued improvement.

Speaking at a workshop on Leadership, organised by the National Institute of Personal Management (NIPM) here, he said the plan should be an ongoing conversation with self and others. The leader should be able to build trust, inspire towards higher level of performance, facilitate team decisions, create risk-free envirnoment, leading to self-empowerment and success.

Dr Chirichello emphasised that effective leadership, collective vision, client centredness, highly effective team, opportunites for professional growth and culture of accountability were key for any organisation. Organisations fall when it fails to meet the essential objectives such as lack of vision, communication failures, hidden agenda, too many 'yes' prople on the team, inability to learn from mistakes and lack of clarity of roles and responsibilites, he added.

Earlier, inaugurating the workshop, New Mangalore Port Trust Chairman P Tamilvanan said an effective leadership required clear objectives, presence of mind and ability to understand the wavelength of others. The leader should always be unbiased.

About 100 delegates, including senior and middle management cadre and students, participated in the workshop.
