NAL installs large scale rotating rig
Bangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) A large scale rotating rig, installed in the Propulsion Division of the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), a premier aerospace research organisation under CSIR, was inaugurated by Chief Controller of DRDO (R&D Division) Prahlada here today.
The rig, used for research at Pratt and Whitney (P and W) in the US, was transferred to NAL to further the state-of-the-art turbo-machinery aerodynamics through collaborative research projects, an official release here said.
Pratt and Whitney had also provided financial and technical support to build a new data acquisition system. NAL was selected by the US company as a partner in view of its expertise and the research projects carried out over the past five years.
The rig would significantly increase NAL's capability to undertake compressor and turbine aerodynamic research without any modification to the test rig. It would be used by NAL to provide inputs to national programmes and undertake sponsored research work, including research projects from P and W, the release added.
