Monica Bedi withdraws her bail application
New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Estranged wife of mafia Don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi today withdrew her bail application pending in the Supreme Court in the forged passport case Hyderabad Case, in which she has been sentenced to five years imprisonment.
A Bench comprising Mr Justice K G Balakrishnan and Mr Justice D K Jain permitted Senior Counsel K T S Tulsi appearing for Monica Bedi to withdraw her bail application.
Earlier Mr Tulsi had requested the court to permit him to withdraw the bail application as he would file the same in Andhra Pradesh High Court along with appeal against the conviction and sentence of his client.
It may be noted here that Monica bedi, a starlet is facing two cases of forgery, one in Hyderabad and one in Bhopal.
Trial in Bhopal case is yet to begin and the state today assured the court that it would try its best to complete it within two months.
Monica has challeged her prosecution on the grounds of douple jeopardy or double punishment for one offence.
According to her, she had already been convicted by a court in Portugal for travelling on forged document and served the sentence.
Therefore she is not to be punished twice for the same offence.
Monica was extradited from Portugal last year for being tried in two cases pending in Indian Courts. Trial in Hyderabad case has already concluded and she has already been given five years imprisonment.
The court has adjourded the hearing till next month.
