Manipur's melody king passes away
Imphal, Oct 19 (UNI) Manipur's melody king Nongthombam Pahari died last evening after a brief illness at his Imphal residence.
He was 73.
Pahari was also the founder member of the United National Liberation Front(UNLF) and was imprisoned for three years.
In 1972 general amnesty was extended to him by the government and he started working. He was the station director of AIR, Imphal and Kohima and DDK Imphal.
He also contested elections after retirement.
The final rites were performed today at the local crematorium which was attended by a large number of people. He had more than 500 songs to his credit and was renowned for popularising modern Manipuri songs.
The Lamyanba Pakhang and other organisations have condoled his death.
