Man acting as courier for naxals arrested: DIG
Visakhapatnam, Oct 19 (UNI) Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Goindha Singh today said the district police conducted raids and arrested a Maoist courier at Puttakota forest area in the district.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Singh said police conducted the raid when 30 naxal leaders were conducting a meeting on the Andhra-Orissa boarder area.
However, while the Maoists escaped from the spot, the police nabbed the courier Sodi Masa alias Ramesh (20) hailing from Orissa.
He was also involved in an encounter with the police in Orissa in 2005, he said.
Mr Singh said the police party also recovered huge quantities of explosives and weapons following information provided by the courier.
The seizures included 53 rounds of ammunition, 60 Kgs of gelatin sticks, the US made Thompson sub-machine gun, four magazines, extremists literature and olive green uniform cloth, he added.
