K'taka Government to provide bicycles for rural boys also

Bangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will soon provide bicycles to school going boys covering about 219,000 students from Eighth class and above.

Announcing this as a 'Diwali gift' Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa told newsmen here that the government would have to incur an additional Rs 44.46 crore on the new scheme. Already the Government has implemented a scheme to provide bicycles for girl students above eighth standard covering 175,000 students at a cost of Rs 35.53 crore.

He said the scheme was a roaring success in rural areas.

Mr Yediyurappa said the government has also issued necessary orders for implementing the Bhagyalakshmi scheme at a cost of Rs 234 crore. The scheme was aimed at providing financial stability to girls in poor families by depositing Rs 10,000 each.
