Srinagar, Oct 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has approved an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees and pensioners at the rate of five per cent of the basic pay from July this year, an official spokesman said today.

As per a government order, the existing rate of DA, including the previous installments, has been revised from 24 per cent to 29 per cent from July 1 this year.

The arrears on account of revision of DA would be credited to the G P Fund from July one to September 30 this year and from October 1, it would be paid in cash.

However, those employees who have already retired or due to retire up to December 31 this year would get the arrears in cash.

The provisions of the order would also apply mutatis-mutandis in the case of officers of All India Services serving in the state.

The government has also sanctioned the payment of medical allowance to its employees at the rate of Rs 300 per month from October 1, 2006 by amending the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service (Medical Attendance-cum-Allowance Rules) as per the notification issued by the Finance Department.
