Haryana paddy arrivals 28 per cent more than last year
Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) Over 21.71 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has so far arrived in the mandis of Haryana as against, 16.90 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
Of the total arrivals, 2.98 lakh metric tonnes is Basmati and paddy of superior quality.
While stating this here today, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that the arrival of the crop was 28 per cent more than the previous year. He said that out of total arrival, over 14.70 lakh tonnes of paddy had been procured by the six government procuring agencies, which was 78 per cent of the total arrival of leviable paddy and the rest 22 per cent was purchased by the private millers and dealers.
He said that out of the total procurement, 6.38 lakh tonnes of paddy had been purchased by HAFED, 4.61 lakh tonnes by Food and Supplies Department, 1.80 lakh tonnes by Haryana Agro Industries Corporation, 1.11 lakh tonnes by Confed, 70,000 tonnes by Haryana Warehousing Corporation and 8,000 tonnes by the Food Corporation of India.
Mr Chander Mohan, who also holds the food portfolio said that Kurukshetra district was leading in the state in paddy arrival with 5.18 lakh tonnes, followed by Karnal with 3.89 lakh tonnes, Fatehabad with 3.62 lakh tonnes, Kaithal with 3.02 lakh tonnes, Ambala with 1.36 lakh tonnes and Sirsa with 1.12 lakh tonnes.
He said that 175 mandis had been set up in the state for the purchase of paddy and the payment to the farmers for their produce was being made within 48 to 72 hours. UNI HS KR GC1826
