'Happy Diwali' from British PM Tony Blair

New Delhi, Oct 19: A philosophical British Prime Minister Tony Blair has sent a message to Indians on the occasion of Diwali saying the festivities give an opportunity to reflect on achievements and ambitions in a frantic modern life.

Calling Diwali a ''wonderful festival'', the Prime Minister says he is deeply touched by the unity, warmth and joy it brings each year.

Saluting the spirit with which Indians celebrate the 'Festival of Lights', he says it is also a time when the family is at centre stage.

''An opportunity, more valuable than ever with the frantic pace of modern life, to reflect on what we have achieved, and on our hopes and ambitions for the future,'' he wrote in the message sent through the British High Commission.

Mr Blair, who is expected to step down in a year or two after three terms in office, says Diwali is also an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the ''immensely valuable contribution that your community has made to our national life.'' Mr Blair, whose country too celebrates the festival because of the large presence of Indian immigrants, signs off saying ''With best wishes. Happy Diwali.''
