DMK-led DPA wins Tiruchirapalli Corporation

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 19: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)- led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) has won the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation.

The DPA secured 40 seats of the total 60-member Corporation. The DMK emerged the single largest party by winning 26 wards of the 33 it contested.

The AIADMK won only ten seats of the 47 it contested while its key alley MDMK secured four.

Five independents also emerged victorious.

The DPA also registered victory in all the three municipalities -- Manapparai, Thuraiyur and Thuvakudi (Grade III). It also won a majority of town Panchayats, Panchayat Unions, Village Panchayats and the District Panchayat Council.

Interestingly, in the 15-member Ponnampati Town Panchayat, the independents have won a majority of ten seats with DMK and AIADMK lagging behind with three and two seats respectively.

Similarly, in Poovalur Panchayat the independents won seven of the 15 seats. The DMK secured three seats while AIADMK and MDMK won two seats each.
