Delhi to have 10 FOBs

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said her government was committed to provide world-class infrastructure in Delhi before commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Delhi would have ten new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) and five sub-ways by December 2007. Six FOBs would be equipped with escalators, she added.

Ms Dikshit was speaking after performing 'Bhoomi Poojan' of two FOBs at Moti Bagh and Satya Niketan on the Ring Road.

Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia and MLAs Ashok Ahuja, Barkha Singh and Karan Singh Tanwar were also present on this occasion.

Ms Dikshit further said these two flyovers would become operational in February 2007, whereas these would be equipped with modern escalators by June 2007.

Both the FOBs would cost Rs 7.55 crore. The entire stretch of Ring Road from Naraina to Sarai Kale Khan would become signal-free after commissioning of these two FOBs as traffic light installed for crossing road by pedestrians at these two places would be taken out.

Apart from this, an underpass at Moolchand crossing had also been opened for the vehicular traffic on trial basis. The FOBs would come up at Maharani Bagh, ITO, ISBT, Rajouri Garden, Moti Bagh, Satya Niketan, Bhopra Border Road No 63, MB Road Sangam Vihar, MB Road Mangal Bazar and Outer Ring Road near Sarita Vihar and Shaeen Bagh whereas new subways would come at Nangloi NH-10, Road No 40 near Shastri Nagar, near Shakurbasti Railway Station and Azadpur Bus Terminal.

A subway at Nigambodh Ghat had already been completed with a cost of Rs 1.71 crore where finishing touches were being carried out presently.

Ms Dikshit complimented efforts of the PWD in pursuing large number of projects together to make the capital city a comfortable and beautiful place to live in.

Dr Walia said all these FOBs and subways would be able to provide much-needed relief to pedestrians and commuters apart from making traffic smooth. The work on two FOBs at Sangam Vihar and MB Road Mangal Bazar would also commence this month, he added.
