Curfew relaxed for 2 hrs in Gharsana, Raola

Jaipur, Oct 19 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed for two hours from 0800 hrs this morning in Gharsana and Raola townships of Ganganagar district in Rajasthan.

Curfew was imposed in the twin towns on Monday after a farmers agitation demanding extra water from the Indira Gandhi canal turned violent. Army was called in after farmers fought pitched battles with the police.

Meanwhile, a Communist Party of India-Marxist(CPM) delegation led by party Rajya Sabha MP, Prashant Chaterjee, Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sewa Sangathan secretary N K Shukla, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committe president B D Kalla will visit Gharsana today to assess the situation there.

Sant Lekha Singh of the Kisan Andolan Samanaya Samiti made a call to observe Diwali this year as 'Kali Diwali' in protest against the police excesses.

UNI PJJ YA VA DB1237 No untoward incident was reported during the curfew relaxation.
