BJP to adopt Gandhian approach to protest against Goa Govt

Panaji, Oct 19 (UNI) With elections to the 40-member state assembly fast approaching, Goa unit of the BJP has planned to adopt ''Gandhian'' form of struggles seeking better administration in the state.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here today, BJP opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar warned Congress-led coalition government in Goa against closure of ''Zuari Bridge'' on the Mumbai-Goa national highway beyond November 6 that could result in loss of several crores of rupees to the public.

''We will force opening of the bridge for heavy traffic anytime between November 6 and 18 as its closure was an immature decision soon after the authorities detected some hairline cracks which could have been repaired with a Rs 1.05 lakh expenditure,'' Mr Parrikar said.

Even the Delhi-based Central Road Research Institute, according to him, had opined that the bridge need not be closed. All this was to create a hype that the government was planning to open a parallel bridge with effect from November 18, as it stated in the recent Assembly session.

The government had neither documentation or clearance from the Government of India in its support to close the bridge, he added.

Describing the mid-day meal scheme for kids as another fraud and scam, Mr Parrikar said they planned to collect sub-standard and unwholesome food with no protein value from the schools and display it in front of the Directorate of Education soon.

The government was wasting Rs 5 crores to Rs 7 crores on the scheme with none to monitor the quality of food as directed by the Supreme Court of India recently, he added.
