Bangladesh the launch pad for infiltration: Narayanan

Bangalore, Oct 19 (UNI) National Security Advisor M K Narayanan today accused Bangladesh of being a launch pad for infiltration into the country.

He told newspersons that talks were on with the Bangladesh Government to curb infiltration into India.

''Terrorist organisations are taking advantage of the situation prevailing in the border areas and infiltrating into the country through the Bangla border. Talks are on with neighbouring Bangladesh and Nepal to put an end to infiltration,'' he added.

To a question, Mr Narayanan said there was no specific terrorist threat to Bangalore. ''Since many vital installations of Defence and other industries, besides Information Technology companies, are situated here, an overall threat is expected, but suitable steps have been taken to meet any eventuality.'' On the Naxal problem, he said it was a State issue. In Karnataka, it had cropped up due to under development of tribal people. The State could take up measures like in Andhra Pradesh, where steps were being taken to economically develop tribals along with strict measures by the police to put an end to naxal activities.
