Army to develop Yoruba into model village

Yoruba, Oct 19: Taking advantages of the peace process, being held with the underground factions and the Union Government, the Army in Nagaland has taken up various development projects under the Military Civic Action (MCA) Project for uplift of people, especially the rural masses.

In one such project, the Army under the aegis of 3 corps has selected Yoruba village, a remote village under Phek district, to develop it as a model village under Operation Sadbhavna with a financial outlay of Rs 60 lakhs with proposals for developing infrastructure, create centre for human resource development, economic growth and improve quality of life.

With that aim the foundation stone for the model village was inaugurated here yesterday by Mrs Rita Dadwal, President of Spear Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) and wife of Lt Gen. M S Dadwal, General Officer commanding (GOC) 3 Corps, at the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Gen. Dadwal said that Yoruba, situated about 680 kms away from the state capital Kohima, stands out for its scenic beauty, rich haul of natural and mineral resources, including timber, bamboo, clay, slate and sandstone and to convert it into a tourist destination.

He said the educational and vocational training facilities for the youth had been a distant reality, facilities will also be provided for agriculture, cattle and other animal rearing for economic development of the villagers.
