AN Gopal leads in Mid-amateur golf championship
Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh's A N Gopal with a two-round total of 155 led the field in the second Mid-amateur Golf Championship here today.
Jahangir of the Shivalik Golf Club (SGC) and Balwant Singh Gill of Kapurthala were tied at the second spot with a score of 156. At the third position was H S Kang with 158.
In the 35th Amateur Championship, which also got underway in three different categories at the same venue today, Laxman Singh of Kolkata led the course with 80 in the 55-59 year category. He was followed by Col R S Grewal of SGC with 81 and Brig G J Singh, also of SGC with 83 strokes.
In the 60-64 year category, Lt Gen H S Kanwar from Delhi was leading with 74 strokes, followed by Col A S Sandhu with 84 strokes and Col Prem Kumar of SGC at the third spot with 85 strokes.
In the third category (65 years and above ) Col G S Brar of SGC led the course with 85 strokes, while Col J S Kang of Chandigarh and Mr J M Khanna of Delhi were tied at the second spot with 87 points.
