Amarinder announces package for employees jobs

Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) In the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections next year, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today announced a Rs 755 crore package for the state employees and 6,600 jobs for school teachers.

The package mainly included the grant of special increments and time bound promotions after four, nine and 14 years in service, popularly known as '4/9/14 package', five per cent interim relief against the the state's fifth Pay Commssion, enhancement of pensions and medical claims and a relief to the computer teachers.

Making these announcements at a press conference here, Capt Singh pointed out that the 4/9/14 package would be applicable with immediate effect.

Capt Singh also informed that the World Bank (WB) has sanctioned the rural water supply and sanitation and road infrastructure schemes amounting to Rs 1280 crore and Rs 1800 crore respectively.

As many as 5,154 villages would be covered under the WB's water supply and sanitation scheme.

Responding to questions, chief minister said the state government had no plan to revive the sick sugar cooperative mill at Zira in Ferozepur district. The employees of mill had been lathicharged during the Chief Minister's rally at Makhu earlier this week as they were demanding their salaries and to re-start the mill.

Capt Singh said the Zira mill was not feasible in that area.
