Alamgir Alam (Cong) all set to become next J'khand Speaker
Ranchi, Oct 19 (UNI) Mr Alamgir Alam, Congress legislator from Pakur, today was the only candidate to file nomination for the post of Jharkhand Assembly Speaker.
Tomorrow's election is a mere formality as nomination papers of Mr Alam were filed in 11 sets and his name was proposed by the legislators from the Opposition and Treasury bench, including Chief Minister Madhu Koda, former Chief Minister Arjun Munda, Ravindra Mahto, Thomas Soren, Neal Tirkey, Anos Ekka, Dulal Bhuyian, Chandra Prakash Choudhary and Jaleshwar Mahto.
Jharkhand Assembly Secretary Sitaram Sahni said former Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari, Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto, Nalin Soren, Salkhan Soren, Mohammad Israel Ansari, Videsh Singh, Annapurna Devi, Harinarain Rai, Joba Manjhi, Gopal Sharan Nath Shahdeo and Chandrashekhar Oraon supported Mr Alam's name.
Mr Sahni said Mr Alam would be elected unanimously as there was only one nomination and announcement in this regard would be made tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Mr Alam said he would try to maintain the dignity as the people from the Opposition and government had exuded faith in him.
The Chief Minister praised the Opposition's gesture by not fielding any candidate for the post.
Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda said the NDA was trying to set an example to strengthen the democracy and hoped that the UPA would reciprocate its gesture.
