AGP, TDP, SP team meets President for talks with ULFA

Guwahati, Oct 19 (UNI) A joint delegation of the AGP, TDP and SP today called on President A P J Abdul Kalam in New Delhi and urged his intervention for resumption of peace talks with the banned ULFA and dismissal of the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to UNI over telephone Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MP Sarbananda Sonowal, who was part of the delegation, said the President's intervention was sought for resumption of talks between the government and ULFA.

Besides Mr Sonowal, the 16-member delegation, which met the President, was led by Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu and Mr Amar Singh of the Samajwadi Party (SP).

The AGP MP further informed that the delegation also demanded the immediate dismissal of the Andhra Pradesh government for alleged financial scams and misuse of power.

The delegation submitted a 1000-page report on the alleged irregularities in the construction of the Ring Road in Hyderabad.

It also alleged that the Andhra Chief Minister had used his office to obtain pardon for Gaurav Venkata Reddy, sentenced to death, from the Governor, which was overruled by the Supreme Court.

The delegation urged Dr Kalam to dismiss the Congress government in the state, Mr Sonowal said.
