Afzal hanging not to take place tomorrow

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) The hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru, the main conspirator who was convicted in the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament, will not take place tomorrow, the date fixed by the court for his execution.

The hanging of Kashmiri separatist has been put off in view of the petition for clemency, filed by his wife, pending before President A P J Abdul Kalam.

About a month ago, the trial court had ordered his death by hanging at 0600 hrs on October 20.

"The hanging will not take place tomorrow since the mercy petition is pending before the President who will have to take a final decision on the matter," a Home Ministry spokesman said here.
