8 dead, 11 injured in jeep-truck collision

Hisar, Oct 19 (UNI) Eight people, including a woman, were killed and nine injured, three of them seriously, in a head on collision between an overcrowded jeep and and a grain-laden truck today on National Highway ten near Hansi in Hisar district of Haryana.

Police said six people died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries in the hospital later. Three of the injured were stated to be in a serious condition.

Four of the deceased have been identified as Sunita, Suraj Mal, Jaipal and Raju of Sissar and Karbala villages in this district.

Four others were yet to be identified.

The jeep, carrying 17 people, was on way to Mundhal when an oncoming truck collided with it on Rampura bridge, about one km from Hansi, at about 1715 hrs.

Meanwhile, truck driver Suresh was absconding, police said.
