70-year-old industrialist, wife killed by robbers

Nagpur, Oct 19 (UNI) An aged couple, living in the posh Shivaji Nagar area of the city, were murdered by robbers in their house last night, police today said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay said industrialist Vidyasagar Jain (70) and his wife Kamala Jani (68) were hit on the head by a blunt object, killing them instantly.

The cupboards in their bedroom were open and valuables were missing, suggesting that the couple was murdered by robbers, Mr Upadhyay said.

The murders were discovered after the chauffeur, employed by the Jains, reported for work this morning. Upon knocking on the door and getting no response, the chauffeur alerted the couple's son, Madhavendra Jain, who lives nearby.

Madhavendra forced the door open and found his parents in a pool of blood, after which he alerted the police. Vidyasagar Jain had established a packaging unit in the industrial area here about 40 years ago.
