269 cases of dengue confirmed so far, 78 from UT
Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) A total of 468 suspected dengue cases have been reported so far from various hospitals in the Union Territory, of whom 269 have been confirmed as patients of the deadly disease.
An official release said here today that of these, 78 are from Chandigarh while others belonged to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttaranchal. Most patients have been admitted in the Government Hospital, PGIMER, Government Medical College and Hospital and Fortis Hospital.
A report from the PGIMER today said that in the last 24 hours, 21 new cases of suspected dengue fever had been reported in the institute.
The official spokesperson said here that 60 patients were admitted in the hospital at present, of whom two were in a critical condition.
So far, 40 patients of suspected dengue fever have been treated in the PGIMER this season, she added.
Meanwhile, the containment measures for prevention and control of dengue were further intensified. The cases reported from various hospitals were investigated by the teams in the field and control measures instituted.
Two fog-generators were deployed for carrying out fogging operations, the fringe areas of the city adjoining to SAS Nagar were also attended to by the special squads deployed by the Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme.
