Wipro suffers highest attrition rate
Bangalore, Oct 11 (UNI) IT major Wipro is facing a high attrition rate at 17.8 per cent during the last 12 months, despite offering one of the better compensation packages to its employees.
Though the high rate of people leaving jobs was common in the IT industry, the rate continued to rise in Wipro. Infosys saw the attrition rate going up from 11.9 to 12.9 per cent since last year.
However, company Chairman Azim Premji claimed that the attrition rate had been contained and it had not witnessed a northward trend.
''This is mainly due to better compensation which is continuously increasing. The trend is not alarming,'' he said.
He said the human resources problem was not serious in IT industry as the quantum of engineering graduates passing out of colleges witnessed a steady growth at seven to eight per cent. Wipro was also able to hire non-engineering graduates due to its good training methods. ''We are hiring about 1,700 to 2,000 students from the Wipro Academy of Software Excellence in Pilani,'' he added.
