TCS starts dedicated outsourcing centre for Japan in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) Tata Consultancy Sevices(TCS) today announced the launch of its dedicated Japan off-shore development Centre(J-ODC) here in a major initiative to establish Indian stake in the fast growing IT outsourcing market in Japan.

" The J-ODC in the company's existing off-shore service facility for different countries will act as the main Indian hub of IT outsourcing operations for the companies in Japan, the second largest market in terms of technology spend globally, " Mr N Chandrasekaran, TCS Executive Vice-President and Global Head, Sales and Operations, said.

" TCS' strategy of building strong in-country operations for Japan is paying dividends. With Japan's economy geared for growth, companies are looking at India and China as outsourcing hubs to be competitive globally, " he said.

The TCS made the move keeping in view the 32-billion dollar potential Japanese outsourcing market in manufacturing and financing operations. Of this potential value only that of 1.4 billion was being exploited at present of which service contract worth 1.2 billion goes to China.

In terms of off-shore requirement, India and Japan are the most favoured destinations of Japan.

At present Japan contributes 4.6 per cent of TCS' revenues from the Asia Pacific region and has 35 Japanese clients, including Fortune 500 companies.

TCS starts with the Kolkata hub with 100 professionals, which is expected to increase to 1,000 in next two years. The centre will work together with other satellite J-ODCs in Sanghai and Hangzhou of China as well as other global development centres in India.

Mr Chandrasekaran said the J-ODC would act as the knowledge hub for Japan, and all specific initiatives in terms of language skills, training, certifications, cultural initiatives as well as knowledge management systems would be driven from this centre and shared across the global market.
