Suspected Tamil Tigers attack SL navy base

Colombo, Oct 18: Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels attacked a Sri Lankan navy base and an adjoining port in the southern city of Galle today and a battle was going on, police and military officers said.

The attack on the navy in Galle, about 70 miles (113 km) south of the capital, Colombo, is the second in three days. Nearly 100 people, mostly sailors, were killed in a suicide bombing on a naval convoy in a north-central district on Monday.
