Rice worth Rs 950 crore seized from Gandhidham godown
Gandhidham, Gujarat, Oct 18 (UNI) In the biggest ever seizure by the Kutch Civil Supplies department, about 6,400 tonnes of rice valued at Rs 950 crore was seized from Al Gyas Rice Sawtex Mill godown at Chudhva village, 10 km from here last night.
Al Gyas mill, which also exports rice, claimed it was selling rice procured from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh and from Bavla near Ahmedabad.
However, when the civil supplies department raided the mill, they seized 3,400 tonnes of basmati rice and 3,000 tonnes of other rice varieties, including rice meant to be distributed through Public Distribution System (PDS) for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
The department also found empty FCI sacks in the godown, sources said.
