Prof's death: Court rejects bail plea

Ujjain, MP, Oct 18 (UNI) A district and sessions court today rejected a bail plea by four persons accused of slaying Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal on August 26 during student violence that followed postponement of an union poll at the local Madhav College.

Six accused are in judicial custody at the Central Jail here.

The Crime Investigation Department had arrested the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's then state president Shashiranjan Singh Akela, general seretary Vimal Tomar and others. A charge sheet was filed in court on October 13.

Sudheer Yadav, Pankaj Mishra, Vishal Rajoria and Hemant Dubey submitted the bail petition before Judge A K Sharma yesterday.

Advocate Kailash Nagar, representing the deceased professor's son Himanshu, said, ''the incident tarnished the teacher-student tradition and the accused are not even the college's students. The postponement of the election was affecting the ABVP.

Akela's bail plea was struck down earlier while Tomar's is yet to be filed.
