Mysore dist geared up to prevent/control dengue

Mysore, Oct 18 (UNI) The Mysore district administration has geared up to prevent and control the spread of the deadly Dengue fever in the district.

Speaking to newspersons here, Deputy Commissioner S Selva Kumar said that though no dengue case was reported in the district, the administration had taken all precautionary measures by creating awareness among the people of the district, particularly in rural areas. As many as four district health teams have been formed to visit various villages and create awareness among the people about the disease and its symptoms.

He said teams have also been formed at the taluk level by the Health department to prevent and control dengue and chikungunya. Any suspected person had been asked to visit hospitals and blood samples of such persons would be sent to the National Institute of Virology at Victoria Hospital in Bangalore for confirmation of the disease.

Mr Selva Kumar said 87 suspected dengue cases were reported last year, of which only four were confirmed and all of them recovered after treatment. No death was reported from any part of the district owing to dengue. All the primary health centres and district health centres in the district had enough medicine stock, he added.

He appealed to the public to follow the instructions of the Health department on taking precautionary measures and report any suspected case immediately to the PHCs for further action.

Referring to food adulteration in the city, he said samples would be taken up for study and a food inspectors' team would be deputed to check the cases.
