Military Police celebrates raising day

Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) The Western Command, Provost Unit celebrated the 67th anniversary of the Corps of Military Police (CMP) at Chandimandir military station today.

A special Sainik Sammelan and a get together of all the personnel of the CMP marked the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour, Lt Gen A N Aul, Chief of Staff, Western Command felicitated the CMP for the commendable task they had performed over the past year and urged them to keep up the good work.

Addressing the Sainik Sammelan, Commanding Officer, Col S K Chauhan greeted all ranks, including civilian employees and their families, and exhorted them to continue with their good work with the same spirit and exuberance. The Commanding Officer also lauded their efforts to quickly ingest the latest technological advancements in their system to promote efficiency.

While the origin of the Corps can be traced back to the months preceeding World War II, the first Indian Provost was raised from the troops drawn from the 7 and 11 Indian Cavalry Regiment of the Fourth Indian Division in 1939.

On October 18,1947 the CMP shed its British connections and was re-christened as the Corps of Indian Military Police (CIMP) and the nomenclature of the Corps of Military Police (CMP) came into effect in January 1950 UNI HS PB GC1512
