Mercury drops to 33 deg C, rain, thundershowers likely in a few da

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) A fresh western disturbance today threw up the possibility of rain and thundershowers in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India in the next few days.

''Under the influence of an approaching western disturbance, Western Himalayan region is likely to experience a wet spell commencing from tomorrow for next two-three days. Isolated to scattered rain/thundershowers are likely over plains of northwest India during the same period,''the weather office said.

Infact, the met office has forecast heavy rainfall activity in over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal during next 24 hours while predicting scattered rain and /thundershowers are also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the same period.

Meanwhile, continuing the trend of fall in mercury in the last few days, the maximum temperature in the capital today dropped to 33 degree Celsius, from 34 degree C yesterday.

Though it was predominantly sunny day, a fresh wave of Easterly winds brought tremendous relief from humid conditions of the past week.

The last few days have witnessed a constant drop in mercury in Delhi with the influence of the North Westerly winds leading to a sharp fall in mercury from nearly 36 degree C on Friday to 33 degree C in the day.

The minimum has also dropped from 24 degree c on Friday to 21 degree C yesterday.

The weathermen have forecast a further decrease in mercury from Sunday onwards, specially a decrease in night temperatures.
