Jerome Taylor gets hat-ricks; Windies upset Australia by 10 runs
Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) Jerome Taylor, the hat-trick man for West Indies, helped his team pull off a memorable upset beating world champions Australia by a narrow 10 run margin in a Group 'A' match of the Champions Trophy played at the Brabourne stadium here today.
Jerome Taylor took the wickets of Mike Hussey, Brett Lee and Brad Hogg to grab the first hat-trick of this tournament.
Australia were kept aline in the match by a 101-run fifth wicket stand between Adam Gilchrist and Michael Clarke, but with Gilchrist falling for an uncharacteristic 92 off 120 balls, with the score at 182 in the 42nd over, the West Indians sensed they could win the match.
Michael Clarke, who had given admirable support for Gilchrist during their 100-run partnership after Australia were reduced to 81 for 4 and were looking down and out, also fell for 47 giving a tame return catch to Dwayne Bravo to leave Australia at a tricky 206 for six in the 47th over.
The rest of the Australian batsmen tried their best, but on a wicket not ideal for stroke-play, the West Indian bowling did not slip up as Australia kept losing wickets to finally end up losing by 10 runs.
