Intikhab Alam named member of PCB doping inquiry committee

Lahore, Oct 18 (UNI) Former Test star Intikhab Alam has been named an expert member of the inquiry committee to look into the doping scandal involving pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

According to a report in 'The Nation', former Governor of Punjab Shahid Hamid will head the committee announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

''He has been appointed as an expert member of the committee,'' a PCB official said.'' Intikhab is likely to watch the cricketers' interests in the committee and would guide it to professional affairs of the players and their needs regarding use of various drugs,'' the report said.

Shoaib and Asif were withdrawn from Pakistan's Champions Trophy squad following revelations of the duo testing positive for banned anabolic steroid nandrolone.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport reported that the committee is unlikely meet before next week.

''We know these two samples have been found to be positive, there could be various reasons for that and we want to find out what has happened,'' PCB director of cricket operations Salim Altaf was quoted as saying.
