Indian farmer killed by BDR
Kolkata, Oct 18 (UNI) An Indian farmer was shot dead when a Bangladesh Rifles person opened fire at a village on the international border at Hili in South Dinajpur district today.
IG(South Bengal) Somesh Goyal said the BDR man crossed into the Indian territory and shot at the farmer, working in field. The farmer, identified as Chintu Sardar, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital.
When BSF personnel rushed to the spot on receiving the information, the BDR man had already escaped leaving behind his cap and few empty catridges, which the BSF seized.
Mr Goyal said no trouble broke out in the area following the incident.
