Hooda junior moots demand for dual MSP

Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today demanded a system of dual Minimum Support Prices (MSP) in view of the varying costs of cultivation in different states.

In certain states like Haryana, the cost of cultivation was higher than in other states, he said and demanded introduction of dual MSP on the basis of the cost of cultivation in such states.

Elaborating on the concept, the Hooda junior said apart from the standard MSP for a particular crop for the entire country, the Centre should also announce a state-specific MSP so that the states where the cost of cultivation was higher could get a higher MSP.

He also suggested that keeping in view the buffer stock and market price, the FCI could assess the situation on a weekly basis and ascertain the prices accordingly.

Asked if the UPA government had discriminated against Haryana and Punjab by announcing a financial package only for the farmers of the South Indian states, he said a district level survey was conducted across the country and it was found that the maximum number of suicides were reported from the South Indian states and that was the reason behind the financial package being given to those states.

He, however, asserted that he would raise the demand for a similar package for Haryana also in the coming session of Parliament.
