HC to hear Khwaja Yunus matter tomorrow
Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) The Bombay High Court will tomorrow hear further arguments into the alleged custodial death of Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Yunus in 2003.
A division bench, comprising justices J N Patel and R S Dalvi, had earlier pulled up the police for failing to transfer fourteen officers allegedly involved in Yunus' death.
The court had directed Director General of Police P S Pasricha on October 17 to transfer the concerned officers by October 19, failing which the court itself would pass the transfer orders.
Yunus was held missing after his escape from police custody since January 2003 until a case was registered by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) stating that he had died in police custody.
Eight police officers had been arrested and later released on bail. There was no further progress in the investigation of Yunus' death due to police non-cooperation, the CID counsel had submitted earlier.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Yunus' mother Aasiya seeking Rs 10 lakh as compensation for her son's custodial death. She is being paid a sum of Rs 5000 monthly by the state government.
