Govt not to interfere in functioning of Universities
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 18 (UNI) Kerala Education Minister M A Baby today assured the state Assembly that the government will not interfere in the functioning of universities and other autonomous bodies.
Replying to a notice seeking the leave of the House to move an adjournment motion by Mr K C Joseph of the Congress, the Minister said there was no move to change the Vice-Chancellors of the four universities in the state as alleged by the Opposition.
He, however, pointed out that steps were being initiated to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the Calicut University as the tenure of the present incumbent was going to end soon.
Regarding the anonymous letters received by the Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the government would take proper action and provide adequate security to the VC.
