Gang selling endangered species busted

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a gang selling birds belonging to the endangered species and arrested two persons in this connection.

The police also recovered a dead Brown Fish Owl, one live Owl and 100 birds from those arrested.

Based on a tip off from the president of the raiding party of People for Animals in Delhi, the Delhi Police yesterday arrested one Raj Narayan, who had bought some Owls for some tantric act, from his residence in East Delhi's Krishan Kunj.

Based on information provided by him, the Police later arrested Mukesh, who sells the contraband birds and endangered species, during a raid at his shop near Red Fort.

Cases have been registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act.

In another incident, the police yesterday arrested one Rajiv Mathur with more than Rs five lakh worth of illegal crackers which he had stored in his godown at Mayur Vihar Phase III.
