Don't revoke Afzal's death penalty: Mahajan

Mumbai, Oct 18 (UNI) Rahul Mahajan, son of late senior party leader late Pramod Mahajan and accused in drug abuse case, where he demanded that death penalty awarded to Mohammad Afzal, convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack, should not be revoked.

It was the first time that Rahul made an appearance at a political function after the incident in which Bibek Moitra, the personal assistant to late Promod Mahajan, died due to alleged overdose of cocaine and he was arrested, effectively, jeopardising his entry into politics.

Rahul, a former pilot with Jet Airways, had attended the national executive committee meeting of the BJP in New Delhi on the invitation of party president Rajnath Singh before the said incident.

Addressing the rally organised by the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) here, Mr Mahajan said Afzal should be given the death penalty and criticised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad who had called for clemency be given to Afzal.

City BJYM president Sanjay Upadhyaya and Sunil Rane also addressed the rally.
