Congress 'fished' in Karnataka's troubled waters : Karnataka

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash today met Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil this evening to apprise him about the measueres taken by his government to check 10-day communal situation in Dakshina Kannada district and restore normalcy.

Mr Prakash explained to Mr Patil all that top police officials starting from State Director General Bhupinder Singh Sial had personally camped in the trouble-prone area to restore normalcy.

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H D Deve Gowda, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, as well as he himself had visited the district to win over the confidence of people. Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal too had visited the troubled district, where two people had died in the violence and private and public property worth Rs 1.25 crore destroyed.

Mr Prakash said that Mr Kumaraswamy had handed over the cmpensation of Rs 100,000 to the kin of the deceased and to those injured.

The Minister brought to the notice of Mr Patil the role of Congress-led opposition, which had not extended 'constructive cooperation' to defuse the crisis when it was most needed but indulged in 'fishing in troubled waters' to destabilise the government.

The police had booked 156 cases against trouble makers and the state has ordered an inquiry by the corps of Detectives to investigate into the situation and circumstances leading to the trouble as well as suggest measures to ensure that such incidents did not recur again, an official release said.
