BCCI should conduct dope tests, says Madan Lal
New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) Taking a cue from its Pakistani counterpart, BCCI should also conduct dope tests to pre-empt any sort of embarrassment, said former India pacer Madan Lal.
''I think PCB has done a commendable job by deciding to conduct dope test for their players. It's high time the BCCI does the same,'' Madan Lal told reporters on the sidelines of the Hero Honda Indian Open golf tournament here today.
Reacting to the recent developments over Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif's withdrawal from the champions Trophy after they tested positive for nandrolone, Madan Lal felt the Pakistani pace twins might have inadvertently consumed something, resulting in the fiasco.
''They may have consumed something which they were not aware and here I feel the boards need to educate the players. In today's world, you simply can't ignore the issue, especially when ICC has a clear-cut policy on the issue and that might jeopardise a player's career,'' he explained.
''I think BCCI is just about to start similar tests here,'' he added.
Madan Lal, however, felt that the pacers might survive the fiasco and go on to play.
''I don't think it's curtains on their career, but lot would depend on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB),'' he said.
